Brother Robert H. LaPoint

Brother Robert H. LaPoint, Gen. Benjamin D. Prichard Camp No. 20, Kalamazoo, died July 15, 2011 at his home, 4105 Rivington Street, Kalamazoo 49008. He was a member of the SUVCW by virtue of the service of his grandfather, Sgt. Joseph Gardner, Co. E, 30th Indiana Infantry. Born in Kalamazoo on March 20, 1923, brother LaPoint served in Europe during WW II in an Anti-Aircraft Battalion attached to the 102d Infantry Division, earning two battle stars.

Robert worked for 33 years for Conrail, retiring in 1984. This past October, he and his wife, Minnie, celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

He is survived by his wife, Minnie, a son, Dennis, a daughter, Yvonne Hackenberg, 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Per his wishes, a Memorial Service was held July 20, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church, 321 W. South Street. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church Building Fund or Special Olympics.
