Michigan and George H. Turner, Record of Service of Michigan Volunteers in the Civil War, 1861-1865. (Kalamazoo, Mich.: Ihling bros. & Everard, printers, 1900).

Commonly referred to as the “Brown Books,” these 46 Volumes (arranged numerically by regiment) were extracted from the original descriptive rolls held at the Archives of Michigan. Once you have found an entry, more information on a soldier may be available in the original rolls, now available online through Seeking Michigan.

Most of the Volumes have now been made available online through the Hathi Trust Digital Library.
